More information

The Holy Mother of God, the patron saint of the city, is a monument with an Orthodox chapel, 14 meters high and weighing 80 tons. It stands on a 17-meter pedestal, which is a chapel inside. In 2004, the city entered the Guinness Book of World Records with the tallest statue of the Virgin and Child. Very close to the sculpture is the 30-meter bell tower of Haskovo, which was opened in 2010. It is one of the highest on the Balkan Peninsula, and from its top reveals an incredible panoramic view of the entire city.
