The submerged church in Zhrebchevo dam

The church was built in the village of Zapalnya two decades after the Liberation, but in the 1960s the village was evicted to build the dam, and the church was abandoned and flooded. Part of the altar was moved to the villages of Gurkovo and Koprinka, and the bell - to Tvarditsa, with the promise that when a resident of the submerged village dies, it will announce its demise with its ringing.

 

Over the years, the church appeared more than once on the surface, then was submerged again.

 

Today it is an attraction for avid photographers and adventure lovers. Hundreds of people come to the shores of the dam to see it "swim" in the water.
