More information

The monastery is located about 1.5 km. southeast of the village, in the valley of a small stream, in the folds of Rila. It was built around the medieval church of St. Michael the Archangel, built in the second half of the 15th century, when the southern and part of the eastern wall have been preserved. The rest of the church was built during the Renaissance. An inscription in the lunette on the east wall refers to the restoration of the church in 1863.
The size of the church and the nature of the frescoes suggest that the church was originally a temple of a monastery, convent or hermitage. the new building in 1997).
The church was completely renovated in 1895, 1977 and in 1997 when a narthex was built and opened from the west.
