More information

The Rila Lakes are among the most visited natural landmarks not only in Bulgaria but also in the Balkans. They are located in a picturesque part of Northwestern Rila, stepped between 2095 and 2535 m above sea level. The individual lakes are connected by small streams, through which they flow into each other. The highest lake is the Tear, because of its crystal clear waters. After it is the circus lake Okoto - almost oval with a depth of 37 m. Next are the Kidney and the largest lake - Bliznaka. The fifth lake is the Shamrock, and the sixth is the Fish Lake, the shallowest closest to the Seven Lakes hut. The last lake is a fish lake, from where the German River, a tributary of the Struma, originates. A walk along the Seven Lakes is about 4-5 hours - to the top of Haramiyata from where we have a view of all seven. The roads in the region are well maintained, there is a large parking lot, and the lakes can be reached by lift from the area Panichishte.
