Aladzha Monastery is located 17 km. northeast of Varna in a vertical rock massif on the Frangen plateau, almost 40 meters high. It belongs to a large group of natural caves, part of the soft limestone sediments at the bottom of the ancient Sarmatian Sea. The rock monastery Aladzha Monastery consists of two levels, the first being a monastery church, a chain of monastic cells, a church for funeral prayers, a kitchen with a dining room, a crypt. On the second level there is a natural large rock niche, at the end of which is a small chapel, which was reached by a wooden staircase from the lower floor, where the church for funeral prayers was located. The original medieval frescoes are best preserved here due to the difficult access.
