More information
The Ivanovo rock monastery is inactive and is a kind of network of about 20 small rock churches, chapels and cells carved into the rocks of the picturesque canyon of the river Rusenski Lom. The premises are located 32 meters above the water and are connected by paths and rock stairs. During the apogee of the religious complex, the rock churches numbered about 40, and the monastic cells and other rooms - about 300. Ivanovo monastery is the most famous of the group, rock monasteries in the Dobruzhan region. Churches in Ivanovo are part of the many rock churches, monasteries, skits and separate cloistered cells, which during 10 -14v. turn the valley of the river Rusenski Lom and its tributaries into a famous Bulgarian spiritual center.
The Ivanovo monastery unites the complexes of rock rooms near the so-called "Buried" church (chapel "St. architect Michael"), the Baptistery, Gospodev dol, the "Demolished" church ("St. Theodore") and the church "St. Bogoroditsa" . In the monastery temples a wall painting from the 13th and 14th centuries is preserved.
