More information
The park is located on the northern slopes of Stara Planina and occupies areas in the central and eastern part of Stara Planina. The park covers part of the territory of the municipalities of Gabrovo and Tryavna. The area is characterized by great diversity in relief. Characteristic of the region are the historical landmarks, which are due to the border role of Stara Planina in the history of the Balkan Peninsula.
The great relief diversity is due to the location of the nature park. It occupies the territories of the transition between the steep relief of the Central Balkans and the significantly lower and sloping eastern part of the Balkan Mountains. This diversity in the relief presupposes the great diversity in the flora and fauna of the region. This, as well as the special historical significance of these parts of the Balkan Mountains lead to the declaration of the area as a nature park.
Within the boundaries of Bulgarka Nature Park is the upper reaches and springs of the Yantra River, as well as its main tributaries. The area of the nature park is 21 772 hectares and the park includes the lands of nine settlements from the municipalities of Gabrovo and Tryavna.
