More information
The museum presents Pliocene finds found in the paleontological site in the area "Kokalite" around the village. This is the largest paleontological site in the Balkans and the second most important exhibition in Europe. The nature in the region during the Pliocene is represented by a 10-meter landscape diorama "Fauna and nature near Dorkovo and in the Balkans 5 million years ago". It features: the fossil monkey Dolichopitecus ruscinensis, the Early Pliocene bear (Ursus boecki), the Rhodope capercaillie (Tetrao rhodopensis), the rhododendron (Rhododendron), the fossil roe deer (Procapreolus), the fossil pike megarhinus), magnolia (Magnolia), mastodon of the species Mammut borsoni, fossil monkey Mesopithecus, herd of hipparions and herd of Auvergne mastodons (Anancus arvernensis). Sound equipment has been installed, through which the sounds emitted by the animals, the remains of which have been found in the paleontological locality, are reproduced.
