More information
The beginning of the museum work in Haskovo was set in 1927 with the founding of the Archaeological Committee.
The first curators were the teacher Ivan Karagyaurov and the artist Dimitar Ivanov - Person.
Since 1935, the official name is "Haskovo Archaeological Museum". Until 1975, the museum was housed in the Kirkov School when a new building was opened, equipped with offices, storage rooms and an exhibition area.
As a result of the dedicated collecting, fund and research work of several generations of museum specialists for decades today, more than 120,000 movable cultural values are stored in the main fund of the Regional History Museum alone. Over the years, the museum has presented its collections and the historical development of the Haskovo region not only in permanent exhibitions, but also in numerous thematic exhibitions and popular publications in national and local media. The most attractive cultural values from the museum's funds participate in a number of national and international exhibitions.
In recent years, RIM-Haskovo has been actively working for the socialization of immovable cultural monuments and at the expert level in the development of routes for cultural tourism through cross-border cooperation projects. As a result, the medieval fortresses near the village of Mezek, the village of Matochina and the village of Mineralni Bani, Villa Armira near Ivaylovgrad, the Sanctuary of the Nymphs near the village of Kasnakovo and others have been restored and preserved. Bulgarian-Greek projects for cultural tourism with Evros district have also been implemented.
The largest realized project is a result of the discovery of the Thracian tomb from the VI century BC. near the village of Alexandrovo in 2000
RIM-Haskovo is constantly working on projects of national and European development programs for renovation of exhibition halls, repairs, improvements and extensions, staff training, facilitating access for people with disabilities and others.
