More information
The Ruse Museum was founded in 1904. It is based on the archeological collections of Karel and Hermengild Shkorpil and the naturalist Vasil Kovachev, which were collected at the Ruse Boys' High School "Knyaz Boris". Since 2007 the permanent exposition of the museum is housed in the building of the District Administration, built in 1882-1892 by arch. Friedrich Grunanger. The original idea was to use the building as the residence of Prince Alexander I Battenberg, which is why it is still called Battenberg Palace.
Institutionally, the Regional Historical Museum in Ruse unites the expositions of the Historical Museum, the Pantheon of the Revivalists, House-Museum "Urban Life of Ruse" (known as the House of Kaliopa), House-Museum "Zachary Stoyanov", House-Museum "Toma Kardzhiev". as well as three outdoor exhibitions: Ivanovo rock-hewn churches, the medieval town of Cherven, the Roman fortress Sexaginta Prista.
