The Monastery of the Protection of the Mother of God is a functioning nunnery located in the town of Samokov. The monastery was founded in 1772 as a convent of the Hilendar Monastery. Today only the monastery church, which was built in the 19th century, is preserved. The icons in it were painted by Dimitar Zograf, and the mural is believed to be the work of Zahari Zograf. The nuns of the monastery maintain a kitchen for the poor.
