Belmeken Dam is part of the Belmeken-Sestri-Chaira cascade, located at 1910 m above sea level along the Sestrimska River in the Rila Mountains. The dam has the highest embankment of the dam on the Balkan Peninsula, and its name translates as "Famous place". In the eastern part of the Rila Mountains it is the highest mountain reservoir, collecting part of the waters of the rivers Maritsa, Struma and Mesta.
